So EXCITED!! I promise to be a better blogger after this huge paper is written as well, but I am so excited for C.L. Wilson's release!
Well, the Tairen Soul series has my heart, but it just seems like the wait is so long. My boyfriend always says I am too impatient and I am. Right now I am trying not to stalk C.L. Wilson's web page for news. Rather unsucessfully I might add. Can't wait for Queen of Song and Souls!
E. Lynn Harris died?!! Wow. Another gifted author and childhood memory gone from this world. I remember my best friend and me sitting on her grandmother's couch reading her Aunt Marsha's E. Lynn Harris books. We spent so much time together that Tina's family was my family so I use the "her" very loosely. We sat on her grandmother's couch and with one of us being the lookout,because we were way too young, and read his books. Another childhood memory gone. Why does Youtube give such awful stills. I mean I look like I'm going to take a bite of that book. Not to take up a post on vanity but...whew. That's a image that could make a thousand ships run the other way. Lol
I have always liked Susan Elizabeth Phillips novels. There is always so much humor and heat. Lady Be Good is about an actual true blood British Lady, Lady Emma Wells Finch. Here is the synopsis from Amazon.com
Lady Emma Wells-Finch is determined to cause a scandal. Nothing big, you understand, just enough to convince her pompous British suitor that she's not an eligible candidate for marriage. She's thinking along the lines of, oh, maybe a discreet tattoo. But when suspended Texas golf pro Kenny Traveler meets her plane at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport, Emma decides that he's the perfect candidate to destroy her reputation.

If Lady Emma weren't a close personal friend of the golf commissioner's wife, he'd never have agreed to squire her around town. Now onto my review: The thing about Susan Elizabeth Phillips is that her best novels are farces that (minus the sex) could have been filmed by Carole Lombard. I really liked this novel and even though I feel like the last conflict was a little contrived and unneeded I still enjoyed this book. Kenny is hot, funny, and full of a heart he takes pains to hide. Since this is my favorite kind of hero all I can say about Kenny is yum! Lady Emma is prim and bossy, but she also takes up for Kenny when no one else would, even Kenny. This endeared her to me and helped keep her primness from being annoying until the end.
This brings me to the most annoying romance plot device ever. Unfortunately it is also the the most used. The "you don't love me so I must leave (hand on forehead in full swoon mode) device. I hate this plot device so much. Especially in historical romances, but that is another post for another day. The plot is brought down by the overused and irritating plot point. But overall this was a page turner and time well spent.
Pros: Screwball comedic plot with a lot of heart. Also three dimensional characters that you would not mind having a spot of tea with.
Cons: Only an overused plot device at the end.
So do I buy this love? Absolutely!! This book is better than tea with the Queen ever could be. If you have never read SEP before this is a fine introduction to a charming author.
Wow it has been a long time since I posted, but I was so busy trying to get all my things ready for school that I never had any time. Finally, I have time again. And I have a lot to say.
First, I would like to send my condolences to the families of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I honestly cannot believe it. I remember when I was a little girl and saw Charlie's Angels for the first time. I loved the idea of women solving crime and being able to protect themselves and the other people around them. This might have had some influence in my love of Eve Dallas and I remember how Farrah Fawcett looked in the opening credit and her beautiful luminous grin. She will truly be missed.
Talking about Michael Jackson's influence in my life would honestly take several posts. I am a person who is dance challenged. I defy all stereotypes that say I should be able to dance. This did not stop me from trying to moon dance when I was in middle school. Disastrous. Absolutely disastrous. Does anybody remember that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine was dancing. Ok, now switch Elaine's image with an overweight Black preteen and you get the picture.
Even though I can't dance his music (which I am listening to right now) called me. I don't think I ever met a MJ song that I didn't like and I sang mama say mama sa mama mama coo sa without ever knowing the meaning at the top of my voice. And I still do. He was an icon, a legend.
Whatever demons that infected his personal life were never allowed to spill into his music. And at the risk of being a computer chair pyscologist, it was probably in his music that he was really free. RIP MJ.
